Neville, Gary and Neville, Phil - For Club And Country: The Hunt For European And World Cup Glory
B+

Given to me as a present, this book is a diary of the 1997/8 season, 1998 World Cup and first part of the 1998/9 season by the Man United brothers. Although refined by ghost writers, the Nevilles are surprisingly opinionated and forthright in their disappointment when left out of the team and disgust at the abuse hurled at United players by opposing fans. The diary also provides interesting insight into the day-to-day life at United and is a surprisingly good and informative read.

Niffenegger, Audrey – Time Traveler’s Wife, The
****
Henry first meets Clare when he is 36 and she 6 but they marry when he is 30 and she 22.  This bizarre impossibility occurs because Henry is a time traveller who frequently vanishes and finds himself naked at some point in the past or future.  Audrey Niffenegger’s highly acclaimed first novel tells their story.
Henry’s unique condition is initially portrayed as a quirky gift though it is increasingly a terrible, dangerous burden as he gets older in real time.  Especially worrying is that he never re-appears as himself beyond the age of 43.
Niffenegger’s tragic yet frequently uplifting love story is a thought provoking, highly imaginative novel.  It jumps from time to time of course but is easy to read with Henry and Clare taking it in turns to tell the story a few pages at a time whilst gradually revealing more of the plot.  An excellent, funny and moving contemporary novel, which is highly recommended.
